Feels on My rational argument

At first it was kind of hard to choose a topic for the rational argument. I always had my back up which was my micro theme. My micro theme topic was about spending too much time on social media, but after I reread my paper it didn't call to me as much as it once did. Then I picked something that was somewhat close to me, I enjoy being active daily and pushing myself to my limits every day, but why does it seem like these ideals aren't trending as much as they were twenty years ago?

And like that I have gotten my topic "obesity and its growth in the recent years" What is so good about this topic is that I have seen both sides. My father was around 220 pounds standing at just about 5'8 and he is the lightest brother out of the four. About two years ago our family had a health kick this benefited everyone in the family differently it allowed for both of my parents to lose weight, my dad to lose around 30 pounds, and me to gain almost 30 pounds and got taller.

This picture was before I started working out and eating healthier. Although I was happy in the picture I was always a little self-conscious about how small I was. So by going on this kick, it didn't just help me physically, but it also allowed for me to be more comfortable and happier overall.  For my dad, I've seen how he is now able to run with his kids and how happy he makes them, while three years ago he couldn't. There are a lot of positives besides just looking better and all of these reasons are why this topic grabbed my eye.

What I Learned About Scholarly Research

In the library we talked about the different types of research and that we had to use a filter for at least two of our sources. This filter was called peer reviewed or something along the same line which meant that it was looked at by someone in that filed that had some sort of power like a doctorate. What I noticed is that the data could be peer reviewed and "legitimate" but also skewed. For example one that I founds was on peoples max squats in relation to what sport they played. In the test they made all the athletes squat at the same time, six in the morning and they found it was between baseball and football.

This information may have been correct, but it's not a well tested hypothesis because its at six in the morning some people just won't be able to lift as heavy during that time because it's so early. By doing it at six the data is unintentionally skewed or even some times intentionally to get the results wanted, but because they did this at that time it's not a valid source. Even though it was peer reviewed its still important to look at the details to make sure you really understand the testing and what the paper is about.

What I learned about the Library

For me, the library was a very nice recap on how to find academic sources in the North Central database. What I found the most helpful was the specifics we could highlight in our search, this allowed me to tailor to what I needed even more than I already could, allowing me to get both sides of the argument. I also had a decent amount of fun doing the research for the group activity where we all got a word and had to make a topic out of it. This group activity allowed for a different way of looking at things and made our group to come to a collective agreement on "Old folks contributing more towards plastic waste".

I had fun looking at this topic I otherwise would've had no intention of looking at, it widened my views on things and for me, I like learning about things that I don't know much about. Overall I think I gained knowledge about how to use the database and learned about the topic I was given I wish she didn't allow us to pick our seats because then we wouldn't have been as comfortable and would've been pushed to talk to more people in the class. I try to be open and nice to everyone in class, but I find it hard to create a topic of conversation for some people and I believe this would've been a good time to mix things up.

My Old Friends

My high school friends were the best! For me I fortunately found my group fairly early into high school, but the problem with being so close is you really notice when they're gone. It's hard keeping up to date with them over text. I will eventually get to see them on winter break and I can't wait. Some of my friends are from my first day of high school like the picture below and others my senior year like the picture above, but I miss them all a lot.

There is one friend in particular who means the most to me and he's not in either picture. It's funny to think that I couldn't find a picture together but maybe it's because when I'm with him I'm always a hundred percent in the moment. He was always there for me and I was always there for him, we would always do the most stupid things and I can't even count how many times we've gotten into trouble. We always talked ourselves out of it though it was the way we could flow off of each other that made it so believable. What I've learned from him though is you can't look in the past if you are trying to move forward so with that being said I can't wait for the new friends and memories that I make at North Central and maybe they'll be even better than the ones I've made in the past.
